Whirlpool Washer Won’t Start

  • Initially, you have to check the power cord. Ensure that the power cord needs to be plugged in and the circuit breaker should be turned on at the electrical panel.
  • If the power cord is damaged, replace it. You can test for continuity of an undamaged power cord with the multimeter. Replace the power cord if there is no continuity.
  • See if the door latch is faulty as it prevents your washer's fill cycle from the beginning even if the door is closed. You need to replace the latch if it fails to close or is damaged.
  • Check the terminals of the lid switch and strike a top load washing machine. Replace the component that has no continuity.
  • Test the buttons on the control board. If none of the buttons are not working, you have to check the power to the control board. If some are working and others don't replace the main control board.
  • Check the line fuse and terminal fuse as well. If you found any damaged fuse, replace it.

However, newer washers have a feature of reset that enables you to reset your unit after a power failure or load imbalance. So, reset the Whirlpool washing machine by following the procedure in the manual and see if it runs.

Whirlpool Washer Makes Loud Noises

  • First, you should check whether the unit is properly balanced or not. If not, with a level raise or lower the adjustable feet until your washer is leveled perfectly.
  • The tub bearings might be worn to prevent the tub from rotating as they should. So, check and replace the bearing if necessary.
  • Try to lubricate the tub bearing as it can eliminate a noise issue.
  • Check if the washing machine's shock absorbers are damaged. You have to replace all 4 of them even if one is damaged.
  • Verify the water inlet valve for mineral deposits. This will lead to getting noise from your washer. Clean out the deposits.

Washer Won’t Drain

Before troubleshooting this problem, you have to remove the water in the tub.

Now, locate the drain pump filter at the base of the machine. Turn it counterclockwise to remove lit or any obstructions. After that, rinse the filter with water and replace it in the washing machine.

Check if drain hoses are twisted or pinched, and straighten them. Also, you need to inspect the hoses for obstruction by loosening the hose clamps. If that hose is not straightened or damaged, replace it. You have to use a new rubber washer when reattaching the hose.

Next, verify the drain pump for obstructions. Use a multimeter to test the drain pump and replace it if it has a discontinuity.

If the door latch or lid switch is faulty, it didn't allow the washer to drain. So, check the door latch or lid switch.

Whirlpool Washing Machine Won’t Spin

Mostly, your washer not spinning because of a faulty drive belt. So, if your washer has a belt drive, you need to inspect the belt and replace it as necessary.

If your Whirlpool washer has a transmission, check the motor coupling that connects it to the motor. If the coupling is broken, replace it.

Inspect the stator windings as well as rotor magnets of the motor stator assembly for damage and replace them as per necessity.

After that, you will have to check for drainage issues like clogged drain filter, faulty drain pump, twisted drain hose, etc. These may prevent your washer from spinning.

Check the drive motor for power. If the motor has power and hums but doesn't operate or turn freely, you need to replace it.

Frequently, these washers stop spinning when the drum becomes unbalanced. Make sure the unit is leveled.

Washer Leaks or Overflows

When your washer is leaking, first you need to inspect the water supply line and drain. These water lines feed cold and /or hot water into your washer. So, initially, you need to put concentration on this.

Following are the causes for water leaking from the waterline of the washing machine.

  • A loose hose connection.
  • Breaks bend and cracks in the waterline.
  • Damaged rubber washer.

Next, check the water pump which is used for draining water out of the tub. If there are no issues with the waterlines and connectors, a broken water pump might be caused the problem.

If the water pump is in good condition, you will have to check the door gaskets as it creates a seal around the opening. When this gasket is broken, the water will leak from your washer when it is running. You need to replace the door gasket based on necessity.
